Proper, well thought out lighting can do wonders to any home. Using lighting fixtures conscientiously and providing the right light accents to your interiors is one of the best ways to really show off how your beautiful your home is. It is also a great way of jazzing up a space that you haven?t redecorated in a while.
Modernizing the lights in your home is a cool interior designer?s trick and here?s how to do it.
Assess your interiors
Walk through your home and assess the whole area and from here make an initial plan of where you plan to put up new lights or areas that you plan to light up. You can draw a rough sketch of the space and identify where you want to put the lights. You should also indicate which areas will need different lighting effects ? dim lights, bright lights, yellow lights, among others. Finally, mark which areas will need constant illumination (places where the lights will rarely be turned off) and those that will only be lighted sometimes.
Take care of the basics
The first step to modernizing your lights doesn?t start with replacing light bulbs and fixtures but on the less glamorous part of the system ? the wiring and switch boards. Have an electrician asses your connections and wiring to ensure that they?re safe and can handle the load. Repair anything that needs to be repaired. This is very important since most household fires are caused by faulty wiring. You should get new switch boards if you want a total updated look for your interiors.
Choose light fixtures
Identify what kind of fixtures you want for particular areas of the house. Do you want light scones, a chandelier, or lamps? These and more are options that are open to you but everything will have to depend on how it will look with the rest of your d?cor and the kind of atmosphere you want to create with the lights. Be very conscious about this part of the process because it is quite easy to fall into kitschiness if you choose the wrong lighting fixture for a room. Ask friends for their opinion, read up on design guides, visit design websites or participate in online forums. These are cost-effective ways of improving your interior designing skills.
Spruce up the oldies
You don?t necessarily have to buy brand new lighting fixtures. You can the old ones that you have. One great idea is to undertake improvements on the fixtures you already own. For example, placing new fabric on lamp shades or polishing up your chandelier.

About the Book
?
Kiana longs to walk through a forest and feel grass between her toes. But she is the living embodiment of a goddess and has enemies who wish to murder her. Her death will curse the whole of Gettryne. Locked away for protection, she dreams of freedom. Her wish comes true in the worst possible way, when her home and defenders are destroyed. Along with an inexperienced guard and a hunted outcast, Kiana flees the ravages of battle to search for a solution to the madness that has gripped Gettryne for a thousand years. Pursued by the vicious and unrelenting Wolves, their journey will take them far beyond their limits, to a secret that will shake the world.
*****
?Switch clothes.?
Kiana blinked at Finn. It was such a simple order but she couldn?t make her arms move to obey him.
?Now!?
Slowly, Kiana turned to look at her handmaid. Erynn?s eyes were red and puffy, her face smudged with dirt from the tunnel and her blonde hair dishevelled. The girl?s shoulders shook as she pulled the plain brown surcoat over her head and held it out to Kiana. Like Kiana, she also wore an undyed woollen underdress that preserved modesty. Kiana stared at the surcoat and then at Erynn. Her lower lip trembled and a lump formed in her throat that threatened to choke her.
?Now, Kiana!? Finn kept glancing towards Ciall, who was standing at the tunnel entrance.
Sunlight filtered in, providing enough light to see by deeper in the tunnel. Kiana could hear the sounds of fighting in the distance. Swords clanged against each other, feet thundered over wood and men screamed. She clamped her hands over her ears and sank down so that she was crouching.
Finn was shouting at her. Kiana shook her head and squeezed her eyes tightly shut. She wouldn?t listen. How could he ask her to send Erynn out to die?
A pair of hands closed over hers and pulled them away from her ears.
?Kiana.?
Kiana couldn?t immediately put a name to the gentle voice. Slowly, she opened her eyes. Nidan was crouching in front of her, eyes alert, body tense, but there was a kindness in his face.
?We don?t have time to think,? he said. ?You need to do as Finn says.?
?But??
?Don?t think.? He was right. ?You have to live.?
Right again. She stood and pulled her surcoat off with numb fingers. Erynn helped her into the rough wool garment. It irritated the nape of her neck. It doesn?t matter! She watched as Erynn pulled on the golden surcoat. Kiana had always wondered why she and Erynn looked so alike. Now it was clear: Erynn was the perfect decoy. Kiana shivered violently. Her stomach lurched. She turned away and threw up. Once she had recovered, Nidan offered her a scrap of cloth. She cleaned her mouth and then managed to force a grateful smile to her lips.
?We split into two groups,? Finn said. ?Bran and Coran will take Erynn.? He looked at Nidan. ?You?re with me and Ciall.?
Kiana had enough wits to see Nidan?s eyebrows raise as his mouth dropped open. Under different circumstances, his expression might have been comical.
?Let?s go!?
She forced herself to follow Finn out of the tunnel, expecting to see Wolves at any moment.
Finn must have sensed Kiana?s nervousness. He paused and glanced at her. ?From what we could see, the Wolves are concentrated around the moat. It?s unlikely they?ll find this entrance.?
Kiana nodded. They had run through the tunnel for what felt like an eternity, and the fighting sounded so distant. Despite Finn?s assurances, Kiana stared after the other group as they vanished into the forest. They had to stay safe. They had to.

Now,lets welcome Clare Davidson, who is going to?share something really cool with us.The Night Before the Assault
I thought I'd share a short scene that takes place before the opening chapter of Trinity: The camp was quiet. The Wolves hadn't lit any fires?it was too much of a risk. Skaric lay on a rough blanket, staring up at the night sky. A blanket of stars spread above the camp, the only witnesses to the Wolves' presence at the edge of the forest. Inside was Blackoak Tower, allegedly the home of the incarnation of Miale. Skaric didn't need to see Vali to recognise his friend. He tucked his hands beneath his head. "I'd rather be on watch." Vali chuckled. His bedroll plopped to the floor beside Skaric and he absently kicked it out. "We're far too important to waste our energy on watch, Skaric," he said in a mocking tone. "Do you think we really will find the Miale bitch in that tower?" Skaric shrugged. "That's what we've been told." Vali stretched out on his side, propping himself up on his elbow so he could face Skaric. "People lie? even under torture." Neither of them had been present. They hadn't seen the man's face or heard his words. Only Berend had. "The war leader doesn't do anything that has the potential to make him look bad." Skaric kept his voice low. "Berend must be sure she's there." The name tangled on his tongue and left a bad taste in his mouth. It was no secret that they didn't get along. A smile spread across Skaric's lips. "We'll know." Vali flopped onto his back. "Oh yes. Her telltale amber eyes. What if that's just a myth?" "You're very pessimistic tonight," Skaric chuckled. "It's a fact that's been handed down from Alpha to Alpha for a thousand years. It's true." He felt the strength of his conviction in his words. "A god cannot inhabit a mortal body without leaving a physical mark." He closed his eyes, allowing the subdued sounds of the camp to wash over him. Hushed voices chatted in scattered clusters. Horses snorted and swished their tails. Leather creaked under the pressure of heavy-handed polishing. The stench of unwashed men and horse dung made the air in the camp uncomfortable to breathe. Tension filled the air, carried by anxious whispers and unseen stares.? "At least Berend is the one who'll face your father's wrath if this is a waste of time," Vali said. Tension coiled in the pit of Skaric's stomach. He opened his eyes. The sky seemed even blacker, the stars more accusing. "We won't fail," Skaric snapped. They couldn't. He rolled over, turning his back on Vali. "Get some sleep."He held his breath for several heartbeats until Vali's grumbling and shuffling subsided. He tugged his blanket around his shoulders, but still shivered. He would be glad when the assault was over, no matter what the outcome.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama canceled campaign appearances in Ohio on Wednesday and scheduled a trip to New Jersey instead to survey damage caused by powerful storm Sandy, a move designed to portray him as a strong leader a week before Election Day.
Obama, who is in a close race with Republican rival Mitt Romney, has dropped three days of campaigning in battleground states to oversee the government response to the mammoth storm, which crippled New York City and much of the eastern United States.
The White House has taken pains to show Obama at work, releasing readouts on briefings he has attended and calls he has made to governors and mayors of states and cities affected by the storm.
After a meeting with emergency management officials, Obama visited the national headquarters of the American Red Cross, where he warned that the storm was not over and encouraged the public to donate to help its victims.
More than 30 people were killed in the storm.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families who have lost loved ones ... Obviously, this is something that is heartbreaking for the entire nation," he said from a podium with Red Cross workers in the background.
"I want to repeat my message to the federal government: No bureaucracy, no red tape. Get resources where they're needed as fast as possible, as hard as possible, and for the duration, because the recovery process obviously in a place like New Jersey is going to take a significant amount of time."
Obama had already skipped several political events to be in Washington for the storm and its aftermath.
The Democratic president's efforts have drawn approval, even from some of his political opponents. New Jersey's Republican Governor Chris Christie, a Romney supporter who will join Obama to survey the storm damage, praised the president for his response to the disaster.
Obama had originally been scheduled to hold political rallies in Ohio, a critical swing state that could determine who wins the November 6 election.
Romney also canceled some political events, but his campaign announced he would hold rallies in Florida - another battleground state - on Wednesday.
Obama squeezed in a mention of another swing state, North Carolina, while praising emergency workers for helping save lives.
"One of my favorite stories is down in North Carolina, the Coast Guard going out to save a sinking ship. They sent a rescue swimmer out, and the rescue swimmer said, 'Hi, I'm Dan. I understand you guys need a ride,'" Obama said.
"That kind of spirit of resilience and strength, but most importantly looking out for one another, that's why we always bounce back from these kinds of disasters."
BRIEFINGS, LATE NIGHT CALLS
Obama and Romney have tried to avoid coming across as overly political while millions of people across the eastern United States were hit by the storm late on Monday.
Obama held a video teleconference about the storm in the White House Situation Room on Tuesday with top members of his team, including Vice President Joe Biden, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, and Craig Fugate, the head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
A White House official said Obama wanted to ensure federal agencies were doing everything they could to assist their state and local counterparts.
"I want everyone leaning forward on this. I don't want to hear that we didn't do something because bureaucracy got in the way," Obama told the meeting, according to the official.
The president received updates on the storm overnight and has signed several disaster declarations over the last few days.
Democrats hope his leadership during the storm and the attention that receives will make up for the lost campaign time in states such as Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, and Colorado, where he has canceled events this week.
Obama and Romney are neck and neck in national polls, but the Democratic incumbent has held a slight lead in many of the swing states.

Step 1: Get a good grip on the bony frill. Step 2: Rip off the head. Step 3: Nibble on the face. Step 4: Savor the delicate cuts at the neck.
This is how researchers say a Tyrannosaurus may have feasted on a Triceratops during the age of the dinosaurs.
A team of scientists led by paleontologist Denver Fowler from the Museum of the Rockies examined 18 Triceratops fossil specimens, mostly skulls, from Montana's Hell Creek Formation. All of the fossil bones had evidence of Tyrannosaurus tooth marks.
Scientists have found isolated remains of Tyrannosaurus tooth marks on Triceratops fossils before, but Fowler's study has lots of specimens from the same region.
"Plus, they're tooth marks on skull bones which is a bit weird since we typically think of the body being the major source of nutrients for a carnivore," he wrote in an email to LiveScience.
His team found extensive puncture and pull marks on the frills of many specimens. As this bony armor around the neck of the Triceratops would not have been a good source of meat, the markings suggest the Tyrannosaurus was gripping the frill in its mouth to rip off the Triceratops head to get at its nutrient-rich neck muscles, the researchers said.
Other bone markings suggest the meal was not just a violent, flesh-ripping affair. Precise bites along the front of several Triceratops skulls indicate the Tyrannosaurus carefully nibbled on the tender meat of the face.
None of the bones showed signs of healing, which told the scientists that the biting took place after the Triceratops had died. As Fowler told LiveScience, "It's actually really tough to show that two animals were belligerents in life."
Fowler presented his preliminary findings last week in Raleigh, N.C., at the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology's annual meeting. His research is ongoing and has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
"Taking the story deeper than the gory surface, with the final paper we're hoping to be able to say more about ecological interactions," such as changes in feeding patterns, he said.
Science news from NBCNews.com
Science editor Alan Boyle's blog: Lady Gaga is already a huge name in the music world, but now she's a scientific name as well ? thanks to fans who named an entire genus of ferns after the pop star.
The findings raise questions about how the feeding behavior of Tyrannosaurus changed throughout its life span.
While adults would have been able to tear apart a tough Triceratops with their thick teeth, the team believes younger ones may have had to turn to different feeding strategies to avoid tooth damage.

Thinking about buying some furniture for your bedroom? It might be a good idea to think about your options. You should consider buying ready to assemble furniture (RTA). Now RTA has become more popular and they look a lot better then before, no more cheap looking furniture!
Many stores have now stared carrying more stylish RTA furniture, such as WalMart, Target and IKEA. IKEA offers many many different styles and types of furniture with discounted prices. RTA furniture is one of the fastest growing types of furniture in the world market.
Consumers are now demanding more sophistication and design and not to mention durability. Even the consumer?s expect more, but they still look at the prices. Because many of the consumers are younger, they want to create stylish rooms with modern furniture, without expensive and heavier furniture. Even if they are living in an apartment, they still want to have a modern and stylish place.
There was a time when RTA was made really cheap and didn?t have much style to it. But now, there are modern designer styles and materials that are being offered, to keep up with demand. And don?t be afraid that you won?t be able to put the furniture together, because instructions have become even simpler over the years. It really isn?t a difficult task.
Originally RTA was created for home entertainment and home storage needs, but now has many decorative pieces. Office stores have been carrying RTA desks for a few years now, but now you can even find RTA dining room tables, bedroom and living room furniture.
Today you can find designer bedroom sets at places like Walmart or IKEA for a lot less then what you would pay at designer boutiques. So have this in mind the next time your going to buy furniture for your home.

WASHINGTON?? The White House received emails from the State Department that said the Islamist militia group Ansar al-Sharia had used social media to claim responsibility for the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi within hours of last month?s assault, American officials said Wednesday.
But Ansar al-Sharia disavowed the claim -- which appeared on Facebook and Twitter -- the following day. It was one of many conflicting accounts to emerge in the chaotic hours after the attack in the eastern Libyan city.
When asked about the emails, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton said that ?posting something on Facebook is not in and of itself evidence? and added that this ?underscores how fluid the reporting was at the time, and continued for some time, to be.?
The assault, which came on the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, claimed the lives of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
Only on NBCNews.com
The emails, called ?op reports,? were among hundreds that poured into government agencies that night, officials told NBC News. All of these messages had to be analyzed and assessed before decisions could be made or action taken, officials said.
"These emails are unclassified from the operation center and go to hundreds, if not thousands of people,? a White House official told NBC News.
?They basically say: we are under fire,? the official said.
Documents add to evidence of Libya security fears'The process is dynamic'
Multiple terror groups often claim credit for the same attack, which makes it nearly impossible to draw conclusions immediately from such intelligence reports, officials said.
U.S. officials told NBC News that the public emergence of the emails added little that was new to the understanding of the U.S. response to the attack.
"Intelligence professionals follow the information wherever it leads to build a coherent picture of what's being assessed. Each report is carefully considered and everything credible is used to try to fill in missing pieces of the narrative,? a U.S. intelligence official told NBC News.
?The process is dynamic. As new reporting comes in, you review, reassess, and revise as appropriate," the official said.
The emails, which have been obtained by NBC News, were also sent to the FBI and other government agencies.
The messages were first reported by Reuters, but administration officials on Wednesday played down the news agency report?s suggestion that the emails showed that senior White House officials knew the identity of those behind the attacks.
Video: Obama defends Libya reactionWhite House spokesman Jay Carney said the emails were ?open-source, unclassified? messages.
?There were emails about all sorts of information that was becoming available in the aftermath of the attack,? he told reporters on Wednesday.
?There was a variety of information coming in,? Carney added. ?The whole point of an intelligence community and what they do is to assess strands of information and make judgments about what happened and who was responsible.?
President Barack Obama and other U.S. officials ultimately acknowledged the incident was a "terrorist" attack carried out by militants with suspected links to al-Qaida affiliates or sympathizers.
Story: Suspected ringleader in Libya attack scoffs at US in plain sightThe attack as it happened
The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.
The first of three emails, sent at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sept. 11, reported that the consulate was under attack.
"The Regional Security Officer reports the diplomatic mission is under attack. Embassy Tripoli reports approximately 20 armed people fired shots; explosions have been heard as well. Ambassador Stevens, who is currently in Benghazi, and four COM personnel are in the compound safe haven.? The 17th of February militia is providing security support.
"The Operations Center will provide updates as available."
More to Benghazi attacks than surface at presidential debate
Another email was sent at 4:54 p.m. ET, saying the attack had stopped.
"Embassy Tripoli reports the firing at the U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi has stopped and the compound has been cleared. A response team in on site attempting to locate COM personnel.?
At 6:07 p.m. ET, another email was sent, saying Ansar al-Sharia had claimed responsibility:
?SUBJECT: Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack.?
?Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli."
Complete World coverage on NBCNews.com
U.S. officials first laid blame for the attack on specific militant groups or possible links to al-Qaida or its affiliates when intelligence officials publicly alleged that on Sept. 28.
There were indications that extremists with possible al-Qaida connections were involved, but also evidence that the attacks could have erupted spontaneously, they said, adding that government experts wanted to be cautious about pointing fingers prematurely.

(eToro Blog) The foreign exchange market is the largest in the world, currently estimated at just shy of $5 trillion in trading activity on an average day. It is destined to grow larger by giant leaps and incredible bounds, with one estimate from Swiss banking firm UBS AG putting it at $10 trillion in less than a decade. While that growth will be driven primarily by pension funds, hedge funds, central banks and insurance companies; individual investors will also play their part, albeit in a significantly smaller role. Analysts don?t believe that there is any global crisis or disruption of international trade which will be able to halt its inexorable expansion and to paraphrase one currency strategist, forex activity is essentially shock-proof.
?
It?s all the more surprising that the forex market has grown so large, given that it is a highly concentrated one. Essentially, there are only seven highly-liquid pairs which are driving the currency market?s growth and which account for at least 95% of all forex trading, with the bulk of the remainder made up of their currency crosses. Four of the seven pairs are considered ?majors? while the other three are ?commodity-linked.? Of course, they are the EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD and USD/CHF pairs and the AUD/USD, USD/CAD and NZD/USD pairs, respectively.
?
Forex is different than other markets, like equities or futures or options trading, because it really has no formal or structured exchange. There are no guarantees, no clearing houses, no AMEX or NYSE and in some cases no arbitration of disputes. It is essentially a market based solely on mutual trust, or as one analyst wrote, the metaphoric handshake. You also get nothing tangible (though that doesn?t preclude invaluable) for your efforts; you can buy and sell forex to your heart?s content but because forex trading is only a speculative market there is no physical exchange of any foreign currency.
?
Oddly enough, it works quite well (most of the time), and self-regulation among traders has provided effective control as the participants compete yet cooperate with one another. Nonetheless, forex traders must still rely on their broker to ensure that their trades are appropriately executed. To that end, reputable forex dealers like eToro will ensure that they are properly regulated and licensed.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings (BLWD) fell sharply in late trades Tuesday after the Minneapolis-based restaurant operator came in light on both earnings and revenue in its latest quarter.
Buffalo Wild Wings reported a profit of $10.7 million, or 57 cents a share, for the three months ended Sept. 30 on revenue of $246.9 million. Same-store sales rose 6.2% at company-owned locations during the quarter while franchised restaurants posted comparable sales growth of 5.8%.
While revenue rose nearly 25% year-over-year, earnings fell 5% from net income of $11.3 million in the same period a year earlier. The average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters was for earnings of 60 cents a share on revenue of $253.9 million in the latest quarter. The company said its bottom line was held back by the "high cost of sales and incremental preopening expenses."

The stock was last quoted at $73.73, down 11.6%, on volume of more than 360,000, according to Nasdaq.com.
"In 2013, we will open more than 60 company-owned and 45 franchised restaurants, and should achieve the 1,000 unit mark by the end of the year," said Sally Smith, the company's president and CEO, in a statement. "We now anticipate we can expand to 1,700 locations in North America, with additional growth abroad. We'll begin to realize the benefit of strategies we've been working on over the past year. We have an enhanced Guest service strategy along with new innovations in food, beverage, and technology that will drive revenue. With this growth and financial diligence, we have a goal for 2013 to achieve 20% net earnings growth on a 52-week basis." Based on Tuesday's regular session close at $83.41, shares of Buffalo Wild Wings were up nearly 24% so far in 2012, although the stock's 52-week high of $94.81 dates back to late March.time change daylight savings rpi dst friends with kids pacific standard time northern mariana islands
SEATTLE (Reuters) - Convicted "Millennium Bomber" Ahmed Ressam, whose 22-year prison term was judged too lenient by a U.S. appeals court, faces re-sentencing on Wednesday for a foiled New Year's Eve 1999 plot to set off explosives at Los Angeles International Airport.
Federal prosecutors who appealed the original punishment have asked the Seattle-based U.S. district judge presiding over the case to impose a new sentence that will require Ressam, an Algerian national, to spend the rest of his life in prison.
They argue that Ressam deserves a much harsher penalty because he reneged on an agreement to assist in the prosecution of other suspected militants and later recanted all his testimony and other statements to authorities.
By doing so Ressam "has returned to the camp of the terrorist," prosecutors wrote in a pre-sentencing memorandum.
Ressam's lawyers recommend he be sentenced to between 30 and 34 years imprisonment, arguing that this is close to the 35-year term prosecutors previously recommended.
The defense also said that 35 years in prison is the statutory maximum penalty carried by the core crimes for which Ressam was convicted - an act of terrorism through the use of explosives.
They also argue that Ressam should still receive credit for the valuable information he did provide to authorities, including testimony against a convicted co-conspirator.
According to the defense, Ressam also identified Zacarias Moussaoui, a convicted September 11 conspirator, as an individual he met at a militant training camp in Afghanistan, and gave information leading to the arrest of al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah.
In a statement filed in court last week, Ressam repeated his retraction of all previous statements, saying a deal to cooperate was made under duress.
He also insisted he was "against killing innocent people of any gender, color or religion," adding, "I apologize for my action." He concluded by saying, "You can judge me as you wish, I will not object to any of your sentences."
MENTAL STRESS
Defense lawyers have suggested that severe mental stress Ressam suffered from seven-plus years in solitary confinement at the "Supermax" federal prison in Florence, Colorado, may have influenced his decision to recant.
He was expected to appear in court for re-sentencing on Wednesday, his lawyer, Thomas Hillier told Reuters.
Ressam was arrested in December 1999 as he attempted to cross into the United States from British Columbia and aroused the suspicion of a U.S. Customs inspector at a ferry landing in Port Angeles, Washington.
After he tried to run away, the trunk of his rental car was found packed with explosives capable of producing a blast 40 times greater than that of a typical car bomb, authorities said.
A jury convicted him in April 2001 of nine felony counts for his role in a plot to set off the explosives at Los Angeles International Airport on December 31, 1999.
He subsequently reached a deal with prosecutors to cooperate in helping to bring other terror suspects to justice, and was finally sentenced in 2008 to 22 years in prison, plus five years of supervised release.
Prosecutors, angry that Ressam had by then ceased cooperating, appealed the penalty as falling far short of the prison term called for under U.S. sentencing guidelines.
A divided 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed, and by a 7-4 vote ordered the case sent back to U.S. District Judge John Coughenour for re-sentencing.
The appeals court majority ruled that Coughenour failed to properly account for the fact that Ressam, who has been incarcerated since late 1999, would be 51 when released, sufficiently young enough to pose a threat to the public.
Defense lawyers argued that Ressam faces deportation back to Algeria and likely further imprisonment there once released from U.S. custody. They also said he would most certainly be a marked man, viewed by groups such as al Qaeda as a traitor for the cooperation he gave U.S. authorities before his recantation.
Disputing prosecutors' assertions that the information he provided was of little value, defense lawyers said Ressam gave more than 70 interviews to prosecutors from the United States and several other Western countries. They said he gave dozens of names authorities could act on, as well as vital information about recruitment, training, organization and financing of Islamist militant groups.

Here with us today is New York Times best selling author, Eldon Taylor, to talk with us about his brand new book, Self-Hypnosis and Subliminal Technology: A How-to Guide for Personal-Empowerment Tools You Can Use Anywhere.
1) You have been called the ?Master of the Mind? and ?one of the world?s foremost experts in preconscious processing.? Can you tell us something about your background and how you became interested in hypnosis and subliminal communication?
I think I have always been interested in the power of the mind; early on I read a lot of books on the subject and attended numerous schools specializing in hypnosis. However, my interest really took off in the 80s. I was a practicing criminalist at the time and I frequently ran lie-detection examinations. One of the problems in lie-detection tests is in eliminating the inconclusives?some people are so nervous about the procedure itself that, even though they are innocent, they can give readings that would indicate deception. On the other hand, some people are very experienced at taking lie-detection tests and they use counter-measures. I was looking for a way to make the innocent person more relaxed and the guilty person, more tense.
I came across some research regarding law enforcement using subliminal audio programs in a hostage situation, and although I could never verify this, it did give me the incentive to explore this area a whole lot more. I contacted numerous companies who were producing subliminal self-help programs and I discovered that the whole field was rife with mis-information. Quite frankly, many of these companies simply did not understand the process themselves, and as a result they were producing products with no retrievable subliminal content, poorly designed affirmations, or affirmations presented in such a way that the subconscious mind could only perceive it as being gibberish.
To cut a long story short, I did my own research and created my own subliminal program for use in my lie detection practice. The results were phenomenal! My inconclusives pretty much disappeared and I found myself launching a whole new career. If subliminal communication could be so effective in this scenario, what else could we achieve with it? I created more subliminal audio programs and allowed them to be tested by numerous independent institutions and researchers (such as scientists at Stanford University). The results were all positive.
My fascination with hypnosis followed a very similar path. Initially I used hypnosis for forensic applications, but as I learned more and more about the power of the mind, I started using hypnosis as a tool for personal growth.
As my reputation grew, I was called in as an expert court witness with regards to both hypnosis and subliminal communication.
2) Hasn?t subliminal communication been proven not to work and aren?t there laws banning their use anyway?
Now that is an interesting question! Why would you need laws banning their use if they have been proven ineffective. And if there were laws banning their use, how come they are being used so much today?in music, entertainment, movies and even during election cycles.
The fact is, there has been a concerted effort, by those who use these methods the most, to prevent laws from being created that would ban the use of subliminals. This is something I experienced first hand when we tried to introduce a bill in Utah to allow subliminals to be used only with informed consent. I was amazed at the number of major advertising companies who sent representatives to fight against this bill.
The closest thing we have today is a codification by the FCC that says subliminals should not be used. However, where the station may lose their broadcast license if they ?knowingly? air material containing subliminal information, there is no other punishment attached to this. As a result, even when George Bush?s campaign was discovered using a subliminal ad against Al Gore, nothing could be done about it?the stations broadcasting the commercial did not ?know? about the subliminal
content, and there was no punishment that could be levied against Bush?s team for having included it. What is more interesting here is, subsequent research done at Adelphi University clearly showed that this ad would have influenced the voter!
If you do a quick search at youtube for subliminal ads, you will be amazed at how many there are and how frequently they are still being used. By turning the whole field into a joke, the mind manipulators are allowed to carry on using these techniques unhindered!
3) Isn?t hypnosis just a sci-fi myth ? or can people really be made to do someone else?s bidding?
No ? hypnosis is very real and has been researched extensively by the U.S. government. By slowing down brain wave activity it is possible to access memories you thought you had forgotten, change your feelings about an experience and prime yourself to act in a way of your choosing at some future event.
The fact is, everyone (except the very young and those with some cognitive deficiency that does not allow them to concentrate) can be hypnotized. However, you cannot be made to do something that would go against your own inner standards/values. If you were pushed in this way during a hypnosis session, you would simply come out of hypnosis!
4) How are hypnosis and subliminal communication related and why do you think they are vital tools for self-improvement?
Both hypnosis and subliminal technology deal directly with the subconscious mind, which is the repository of all of your experiences, feelings and reaction. These subconscious beliefs play a definite role in your ability to achieve goals. For example, if you were brought up to believe that ?money is the source of all evil,? and then you had the conscious desire to be rich and successful, this subconscious belief would keep finding ways to sabotage you. Or maybe your outer goal is to lose weight, but somewhere in your past you were hurt by a significant other, so you put on extra weight in order to avoid attracting unwanted attention. Until you deal with?some of these subconscious beliefs, until your inner goals are in line with your outer goals, success will always elude you.
Hypnosis works by slowing down brainwave activity, which makes it easier to recover memories, to access your own subconscious beliefs and also to reprogram yourself for success. Subliminal communication works by bypassing conscious awareness and all of its defense mechanisms. It changes your self-talk (the beliefs held by your subconscious) from the inside out. As your self-talk changes, so does your life experience. It?s important to note, the current data suggests that approx. 90% of your choices are actually made by the nucleus accumbens, the area of the brain that is in our subconscious domain.
5) Can you share some of the greatest success stories using hypnosis?
I think my most amazing experience with hypnosis was when I was doing this for a client who needed to learn pain management. One day, after a normal session, she suddenly began to channel a Chinese entity! It seems he had some information specifically for me, but I had to send the audio recording off to the language department at the University of Utah before I could learn what he was saying!
However, that really is an anomalous kind of event! I think, not counting that one, I have used forensic hypnosis to assist a victim in providing identifying information after he was robbed at gun-point. Out of hypnosis, all he could remember was the size of the gun, but under hypnosis he even managed to remember the car and a partial license plate.
I have also used hypnosis for child birth, when a friend of mine asked for help as she wanted to minimize the use of drugs for pain.
6. What else can you use hypnosis for?
There are so many areas in which hypnosis has been used successfully. These range from weight loss and smoking, to pain management and stress, from enhancing sports performance to enhancing learning abilities, from self-healing to sex enhancement, and from meditation to past life regression.
7. Do you have any amazing success stories as a result of using subliminal communication?
All success stories are amazing, simply because they have improved the quality of that person?s life. However, some of the most fascinating stories would have to include the individual who credited using a program for Prosperity and Abundance for finding a winning lottery ticket, or the person who trades on the stock exchange and always does better when working with this same program. And I have received a number of letters from people in remission from cancer, who attribute this to using the Spiritual Healing for Cancer program that I offer.
8. What else can you use subliminal programs for?
Again, this list is as wide as those for hypnosis. Basically, if you do not believe you can succeed, then this belief will prevent you from becoming the best that you can be. The best part of my job is the many letters I receive, on a daily basis, telling me how much their lives have improved using my InnerTalk subliminal programs. I love hearing from the mother who is happy that her child is no longer afraid of school, or the student who has just passed their law school Bar exam, or the Olympic athlete who just won a medal. I have received letters regarding relationship, health, spirituality, better life, business and addictions. All of these are areas users have reported improvements in, which have resulted in an increased quality of life.
9. You say in your book that self-hypnosis and subliminal communication are the best self-help tools. Do you use them yourself, and if so, how?
Yes, I use them myself virtually every day! The subliminal programs are easy to use as they can just be played in the background as you go about your day. Sometimes I will be working on something specific, say avoiding catching a cold that is going around. In this instance I use the Accelerated Healing and Well-Being program. When I am not working on something specific, then I like to keep myself ?tuned up? and will use a program such as Optimism Plus or Quantum Younging. I actually have a number of programs that I have put on my i-phone, which of course?has built in speakers. This way I can keep my phone in its holster and benefit from the subliminal programs whatever I am doing.
I generally use self-hypnosis twice a day. I try to take time out to meditate every day and self-hypnosis can really speed this process up. I can achieve in a 10 minute session what would take me half an hour if I did not use self-hypnosis. I also use self-hypnosis last thing at night. It is a great way to go to sleep and also for keeping myself focused on my goals while I am sleeping.
10. In your book, Self-Hypnosis and Subliminal Technology, you provide step-by-step instructions for learning self-hypnosis and for creating your own subliminal program. Is this really all you need, or is this just an introduction to more courses and classes the reader needs to go through before they can achieve any practical benefits?
No, I have tried to make the course as complete as possible. I explain the theory behind both processes, provide detailed information on how to do it all yourself, and give you examples of how you can take these techniques even further. The book comes with an audio CD so that you can experience all of this as well, so there can be no confusion about whether or not you are doing it correctly. Once you have been through this course, you will know:
* The 5 different steps for putting yourself into a hypnotic state;
* Several visualization, induction and deepening techniques, including deepening to eliminate distraction;
* All about post-hypnotic cues, affirmations, self-suggestions, how to uncover information and find the positive in negative experiences;
* How hypnosis can be used to create new habits, uncover hidden conflicts that often cause self-destructive patterns and discover new solutions to old problems; and
* Even how to use hypnosis for expanding conscious awareness, out of body awareness, regression-therapy, and automatic-writing/drawing!
You will also know:
* How subliminal communication works;
* Why it is so much more powerful than simply using affirmations;
* How to write effective affirmations for subliminal delivery;
* The importance of choosing the right soundtrack; and
* How you can create your own custom subliminal program, for whatever goal you seek to achieve!
I also provide plenty of examples of how to use these two techniques in your own self-improvement program.
